Song 'O The Moment

Something most extraordinary happened to me on the bus today.
Having dozed off as usual, I woke up abruptly at a stop to find the cutest girl - she couldn't have been more than three or four - looking in wonder at my laptop.
Now, sometimes I listen to mp3s on the bus on my laptop, so I had it on my bag out in front of me. The girl was so very fascinated with the bright screen with all my mp3s on it, so entranced with the LCD display she began poking at it, totally absorbed, as if it was the most amazing thing in the whole wide world to her.
Watching her, I was suddenly reminded of innocence lost.
When did we all become so jaded? Where did we all lose that sense of wonder at things in the world? Why have we become so numb to everything but that which we think we care about?
What's happened to us? Who are we now?
Questions I don't have the answers to. Questions I suspect no else can answer.
But there is hope. There is always hope. Pandora had ensured that.
When the bus finally reached the interchange, the mother (I assume) pulled the kid to her and marched her off the bus. I suppose I should have been indignant that the mother had hardly bothered about her daughter throughout the entire bus trip, but I didn't.
The old woman sitting across from me was smiling. No doubt, she had been observing the whole affair. I grinned back in return.
I hoisted my bag and got off the bus. As I passed the mother and her kid, I looked at her cherubic face.
She smiled at me, as only a kid can. Then she waved.
I smiled back.
She had just made my day.
You are bleeding You are beautiful, no matter what they say In this lying, your tired childish games Swept us all away
Sing it out, sing it out for all of us Sing it out, sing it out for all of us
This is strange This is wonderful, it's gripped your torso It takes time More than we have, so why have we done now?
Sing it out, sing it out for all of us Sing it out, sing it out for all of us
Sing it out, sing it out for all of us Sing it out, sing it out for all of us
It takes time Please tell me what we've done? It takes time Please tell me what we've done?
Sing it out, sing it out for all of us Sing it out, sing it out for all of us
Sing it out, sing it out for all of us Sing it out, sing it out for all of us
Everybody knows about the proverbial trio of hero, heroine and villian. The stuff of every soap-box sob-fest or drama serial.
We all love to imagine ourselves as the hero or heroine. Nobody ever bothers to think of the villian, the cardboard cut-out stereotyped bad guy, girl, half-confused homosexual or whatever else that's convenient.
Nobody ever imagines they would have feelings, too. Or that they might one day BE that villian.
Why would anybody?
In all our self-righteousness, it would never occur to us that we might be wrong.
I feel like a window-shopper on the outside, looking in. Wanting that which is in the display so badly, but not being able to have it.
And eventually that desire will drive you mad.
Cease and desist. But it's never as simple as the world makes it out to be.
When everything screams an impossibility, silence is but the best consolation that can be offered.
Onen i-Estel Edain...
U-chebin Estel anim.
Friendships are as fragile as the trust they are built upon.
Remember that.
I would have you smile again... not grieve for those whose time will never come.
See the devil on the doorstep now Telling everybody oh just how to live their lives Sliding down the information highway Buying in just like a bunch of fools Time is ticking and we can't go back
What about the world today What about the place that we call home We've never been so many and we've never been so alone
Keep watching from your picket fence You keep talking but it makes no sense You say we're not responsible but we are, we are You wash your hands, you come out clean But fail to recognize the enemies within You say we're not responsible but we are, we are, we are, we are
One step forward making two steps back Riding piggy on the bad boys back for life Lining up for the grand illusion No answers for no questions asked Lining up for the execution Without knowing why
You keep watching from your picket fence You keep talking but it makes no sense You say we're not responsible but we are, we are You wash your hands, you come out clean But fail to recognize to enemies within You say we're not responsible but we are, we are, we are, we are
Its all about power And by taking control Breaking the will Breaking the soul They suck us dry till there's nothing left my oh my, my oh my
What about the world today What about the place that we call home We've never been so many and we've never been so alone....so alone
Keep watching from your picket fence You keep talking but it makes no sense You say we're not responsible but we are, we are You wash your hands, you come out clean But fail to recognize the enemies within You say we're not responsible but we are, we are, we are, we are
